AWS infrastructure administration care for BiotCloud
The LUG S.A. Capital Group brings together companies that jointly develop smart lighting systems dedicated to urban and industrial areas. Based on IoT technology, it implements solutions to manage lighting, detect its failures and optimize the consumption of electricity required to power the lighting network. In addition, thanks to the use of the latest cloud trends, the solutions implemented by BIOT, a subsidiary of LUG S.A., make it possible to run smart automations, thus creating an important element of a "smart city."
Customer expectations
With the company's growth and rapidly increasing number of customers, lighting SMART systems, required more and more resources, which translated into the need for increased involvement in the maintenance and monitoring processes of the infrastructure to ensure its continuous and correct functioning. At this point, the search began for a partner capable of providing effective support for 24/7 care and monitoring of the existing infrastructure already housed in AWS.
The beginning of the cooperation
In response to the client's needs, i.e. a very high SLA, guaranteed 24/7/365 application availability and the highest security standards, we proposed our administrative care service. In addition, using our many years of experience in designing, optimizing and maintaining cloud environments, we also offered a number of solutions (application migration to EKS, database migration to RDS, Elasticsearch migration) to improve the efficiency of the Client's environment and thus the application.
Implementation
Biot's infrastructure is a modern environment based on Kubernetes platform, microservices and IaC approach. The whole consists of 2 standard environments: test and production. In addition, Biot also uses tools and services such as Amazon EC2, AWS S3, AWS Route 53, Amazon EFS and Amazon Load Balancer. Kubernetes applications are managed by Helm in tandem with ArgoCD.
The beginning of our cooperation was a standard audit of the infrastructure, a review of the cluster, preparation of documentation of the environment and plugging the whole thing into our monitoring system. In the next step, we proposed to the client to replace the Kubernetes Cluster maintenance tool from the previously used solution to Amazon EKS (the change was implemented by the client). In parallel with the administrative care service, we also provided DevOps consulting services, supporting the Client's team in analyzing and implementing new solutions. We also performed a Well-Architected audit to verify the best practices implemented by the Client.
Summary
We took over the administrative care of the Client's infrastructure, monitoring workloads and supporting in solving potential problems. In addition, we provide DevOps consulting services, thus relieving the Client's team, which can thus devote far more attention to the development of the offered products.
