Server management and increasing the efficiency of the Webankieta.pl platform are the main challenges that awaited us as part of our cooperation with a new client specializing in the creation of online surveys and data analysis. For Webankieta.pl we provide constant server management and have implemented solutions that improve the efficiency of applications and increase data security.
Introduction
Webankieta is system for creating questionaires. It serves such prestigeous clients as ING Bank Slaski, Deutsche Bank BZWBK, Itaka, Medicover, PKP, PZU, Danone, Jysk, Polska Press Grupa.
Challenge
By providing 24/7 administrative support to our client, the situation analysis revealed a number of application performance issues and network issues (packet loss). Additionally, we diagnosed problems with the network in the Data Center, where our client’s servers were located, as well as problems with drives that affected the overall performance of the application.
Implementation
Hostersi first configured new infrastructure and migrated the systems to a new Data Center in order to eliminate some of the bottlenecks and challenges.
The changes implemented by Hostersi resulted in full redundancy and High Availability. That means that even if substantial part of the Cusomers infrastructure will fail, users will not even notice it.
In order to increase performance of the aplications Hostersi implmented HTTP2 protocol. Another part of the project was to provide fast access to the platform from anywhere by implementing CDN (Content Delivery Network). Level of security was increased by building in DDoS Prevention mechanisms. Upgrading the overall infrastructure eliminated also major security gaps related to meltdown.
Last (but not least) part of the project was implementation of the log management tools set ELK Stack that consists of Elasticsearch (text search engine), Logstash (log aggregation) and Kibana (visualisation).
Parallel Distributed Geo-Redundant File System LizardFS was used for storing and aggregating data from many applications, before it gets to ELK. Thanks to that configuration (Elasticsearch and LizardFS) Hostersi got a storage with searching capabilities that is compliant with GDPR.
Data aggregation due to security precautions is done from flat files. These files are later processed by parsers in Logstash. The whole process is done this way so data can return to canonical state of a log.
Thanks to LizardFS Hostersi can scale both up and down simply by adding a drive or a node – the system will autobalnce itself.
Hardware agnosticism enables Hostersi to use existing infrastructure and gives them possibility to exit vendor lockin if they are buying a new commodity components.

On the client’s new infrastructure we have also launched Nginx, Redis, RabbitMQ, HAProxy – all clustered in HA ensuring high availability. The whole works on the basis of VMware vSphere virtualizer. We constantly configure, maintain and ensure secure VPN connections with Webankieta’s customers.
